The undefeated middleweight champion of the World Boxing Council Jermall Charlo, will fight in his hometown for the second consecutive year, when he faces the tough Pole Maciej Sulecki, on Saturday June 18 at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.
Charlo (32-0, 22 KOs) will fight in his hometown of Houston for the fifth time in his career, having most recently earned an entertaining unanimous decision win over Juan Macias Montiel in June of last year.
The 31-year-old earned a unanimous decision win over top middleweight contender Sergiy Derevyanchenko in their September 2020 matchup and owns a 7-0 record since he moved up to middleweight in 2017.
“I am excited to get back in the ring in front of my people in Houston and put on a great show fighting the weekend of June 16 once again. Juneteenth is a very important celebration and fighting around this date is very motivating for me”, commented Charlo. Sulecki is a tough fighter who will come hungry. But no one will stop me from giving a special performance and a big win on June 18.”
From Warsaw, Poland, Sulecki (30-2, 11 KOs) trains in Chicago, Illinois with his new co-trainer, Andrzej Fonfara. He will look to get the third straight win from him on June 18.
The 32-year-old has never been knocked out and has won four of his last five fights, including a unanimous decision over Gabriel Rosado. Sulecki has fought professionally since 2010 and also scored notable wins by defeating former champion Jack Culcay in 2017 and knocking out then-undefeated Hugo Centeno Jr. in 2016.
“I have been training for a long time for this fight and I feel strong and ready to step into the ring,” said Sulecki. “Charlo is a great champion and I respect what he can do, but I don’t think he is better than the opponents I have faced before. We have a great community of Polish fans in the United States, and I know they will be support me on June 18.”
