The WBC super middleweight Silver champion, Jaime Munguía, won a resounding victory, by knocking out the brave English fighter John “Gorila” Ryder in the ninth round.
He sent Ryder to the canvas four times at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona.
Ryder had just fought and weathered rounds with Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez, to whom he lost on points in May of last year.
Munguía came from a long preparation having changed coaches and is now guided by the renowned Freddie Roach.
Munguía did an excellent job, fighting with strength and intelligence, to beat Ryder on the fast track in the ninth.
Munguía sent Ryder to the canvas in the second round, with a forceful right hand. He knocked him down again in the fourth, then the other two knockdowns in the ninth, with Ryder on the ropes, his corner decided to intervene to avoid further unnecessary punishment.
“I am very happy because I worked hard to prepare for this. I know that many people did not believe in me, and this is the result of hard work with my team,” Munguía commented.
