Visiting the WBC’s “Coffee Tuesday,” the Mayor of Iztapalapa, Aleida Alavez, confirmed that the WBC “Green and Gold” Tournament will take place on Saturday, August 16th, at the Macroplaza in Iztapalapa, Mexico City.
Mayor Aleida commented: “In Iztapalapa, we have always promoted boxing; it’s a very popular sport, and we want young people to be more interested in it. Today, the winners of the last ‘Green and Gold’ tournament are with us, and on August 16th, we will hold the next edition. Sports are a fundamental part of our government, and we will always support them, especially boxing, the discipline that our residents like the most.
“We are very happy to have your support and we hope the WBC will be present.”
Loany Mejía, an Iztapalapa councilor, commented: “We want to continue supporting boxing, and that is why we are organizing this tournament with the support of the WBC. We have worked hard on the organization, and thanks to the mayor and the work team, it has been possible. We expect an event with more than 120 participants where we will surely see some of the next world champions.”
WBC President Mauricio Sulaimán said: “We wish you great success and will be present with our ambassador, Josejas. I congratulate and thank Mayor Aleida and her wonderful team for all they do for boxing. Having leaders like you who support young people and keep them away from vices and bad influences is the best thing for our society.”
Josejas, the WBC ambassador, commented: “It is an honor to meet the champions of the ‘Green and Gold’ tournament. I can tell you to always give your best. Never stop believing in yourselves. Think that you are the future of this nation. You should always have your head held high and a hand on your heart. Good luck in the next tournament. We will be there with world champions to support this magnificent event.”
