Oksana Semenishina the WBC Board Member, Serdar Avci head of the WBC Turkiye office, Serenay Cetin former WBC Silver champion, Tarik Sozer WBC Asia Champion and Burak Kucukcavus WBC Youth champion visited the café.
This is where showed to the kids the beauty of boxing, teaching them to punch, showing their belts. Later the kids served the lunch prepared by their mothers.
Down café was opened in 2011 by the mothers of the 28 young people who are employed in the café.
Today 36 young people from the child protection agency as a state project, come to the café in the morning help clean it and tables, arrange napkins and cuttlery plus serve delicious meals with their mothers.
Young people receive their salaries at the end of the month with great joy with the consciousness that they have contributed to their families.
Café Down carries out its mission in different ways. Gathering all the children who work 5 days a week in a café on weekends, accompanied by volunteer teachers, strengthens their social status through cultural activities such as rhythm, sign language, folklore, drama, theatre and raises awareness by showing what they are capable of.
Down Café, which is a role model for all of Turkiye and the only one of its kind, has been adopted throughout the country and, taking into account the lack of this social activity in the disabled community, has been receiving calls from every city, helping as much as it can, and has approved the opening of many Down Cafés.
