A memorable weekend, with the celebrations of the 2022 International Boxing Hall of Fame, which held a triple induction ceremony for the 2020, 2021 and 2022 generations, emerging from the Covid-19 pandemic.
The festivities began on Thursday, June 9, and ended this Sunday at the Immortals’ venue in Canastota, New York, home of the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
Among the champions of the three generations: Floyd Mayweather, Juan Manuel Márquez, Miguel Cotto, Roy Jones, André Ward, Shane Mosley, Bernard Hopkins, Laila Ali, Christy Martin and Wladimir Klitschko, who could not be present because he is in the defence of Ukraine against the Russian invasion.
Promoters and journalists who have undoubtedly contributed a lot to world boxing were also awarded.
Among the most greatest moments of the ceremony, was the induction of Floyd Mayweather Jr, a fighter with a great defensive technique, which allowed him to walk away from the sport practically intact.
During his speech at the banquet, Mayweather Jr. was moved and even wept at this recognition of his impressive career.
“I told myself I wouldn’t cry. This is one of the best days of my life.
I am so very proud of these fighters. I’m not even here to talk about myself, because without them, I wouldn’t be me. I am happy that Juan Manuel Márquez, Shane Mosley, Miguel Corto, are in the Hall of Fame. All these legends. Bernard Hopkins and James Toney. The list is long. Andre Ward, Laila Ali, all the fighters. I’m so proud of you.”
