The Irving Police Association Gym in Texas, with the support of Don Rosario Solís, opened its doors to the WBC and Rocky Herron to have a heart to heart with more than 50 young boxers and their families.
Rocky Herron, who is an experienced DEA Agent, gave a memorable talk about drug use and the consequences that it can have, not only for the consumer but also for the people around them.
Rocky shared his experiences and the shocking stories of young people who have lost their lives due to drugs. During this talk, which turned out to be a harsh dose of reality, Herron commented that the United States is one of the largest consumers of drugs and in the last year alone, 90,000 lives have been lost due to overdoses. A figure that far exceeds the losses that have been they had in the Vietnam War.
The talk “I choose my future” is that reality check where Herron forces us to reflect on what we want for the future, where we want to be and where we want to see our children and young people.
He stressed that no one can say that drugs are a smart or a fashionable decision. He insisted that it is up to each of us to say NO, and to make the right choices; however, he clarified that it is EVERYONE’s problem that we must make a constant and sustained effort.
As part of the WBC and WBC CARES activations, souvenirs were distributed to young people and with the support of Premier Boxing Champions, tickets were given away for the long-awaited Spence vs. Ugas card at the AT&T stadium, this Saturday.
