“Hands of Stone” attends Mexico City debut of Creed Two
Hats off to legendary Roberto “Manos de Piedra” Duran attending the Mexico City premiere of Creed Two at Cinepolis Coyoacan, in Mexico City.
Roberto who flattened a legion of opponents in his time spanning five decades, was naturally sporting a flat cap. It more than matched the film headgear of Rocky who donned a battered, crumpled type of trilby, which looked somewhat less in place than Paulie`s Pork Pie hat, or Mickey`s bobble hat, for those old enough to remember Rocky One…way back in 1976.
The event was attended by World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman who stressed: “We will always support Sylvester Stallone. He has done great things for Boxing and he`s our WBC Man of the year for 2018.” Outside the movies, Stallone`s great achievement this year, was fighting for and winning an official Presidential Pardon for Jack Johnson, which was signed by President Donald Trump at the White House.
At this film debut, two slim fitting rather weedy and certainly reticent robed characters representing the fighters in the film, perched on top table, almost teetering, like cats on a hot tin roof, bashfully presented themselves, with hoods well pulled down. Then asap, they melted into the background, shortly before the movie burst into action.
For those familiar with the Rocky saga, the plot follows familiar tried and tested lines, without falling in the trap of plodding. The fight scenes are exciting and realistic. Andre Ward had a hand in this.
The film opened in the US last month and has earned more than 120 million at the box office. Excellent performance from Michael B Jordan, Sylvester and a craggy but still handsome Dorf Lundgren. Very impressive menacing performance from Florian Munteanu “Big Nasty” as Viktor Drago. Not for nothing has he earned this nickname!
For those who crave “Excitemente” and like their goodies and baddies well defined, this is a knockabout knockout movie. Don`t forget to duck as the punches zoom in, like cascading boulders from the Silver Screen!
