In a close duel of undefeated fighters at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California, Ginny Fuchs defeated Adelaida Ruiz by split decision to win the interim WBC super flyweight title.

Riyadh Season, Official Partner of the World Boxing Council, joined Parm Goraya, member of WBC Cares India, in supporting homeless children in India.

August 24

At 47 years old, American fighter Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr. made his debut in Mexico City, in an exhibition at the iconic Mexico City Arena, dominating John Gotti III for eight two-minute rounds.

In the undercard  fight, David “Rey” Picasso successfully defended his WBC super bantamweight title by defeating Armenian Azat Hovhannisyan.

Heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk presented a WBC belt in recognition to the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky.

The 54th Annual NABF Convention was successfully held from August 22-25 at the Grand Hyatt San Antonio River Walk in Texas.

August 19

The African Boxing Union held its 2024 Convention at the Africana Hotel in the beautiful city of Kampala, Uganda, from August 19-23. Its President Houcine Houchi solidified his leadership by laying out a great work program for Africa in 2025.

August 18

Martha Saldivar Sulaiman, Matriarch of the World Boxing Council, beloved mother and grandmother of the Sulaiman family, passed away surrounded by her loved ones. The world boxing community embraced the family with multiple displays of affection. Dona Martha’s farewell took place in front of a room packed with floral arrangements from loved ones.

August 17

The WBC President Mauricio Sulaimán and the President of Premios Nacionales Deportivos Mexicanos, A.C., Olympic medalist Daniel Aceves Villagrán, unveiled a wall that recognizes all the winners of the National Sports Award. Don José and Mauricio are the only Father and Son who have received this distinction from the hands of the President of Mexico.

The second edition of the José Sulaimán Chagnón Boxing Tournament organized by the WBC and the Secretary of Citizen Security in Mexico was held, in which 25 police officers from various sectors and 36 citizens from various gyms participated.

August 14

Prashanth Singh and Abhishek Kadali of the Indian Boxing Council (IBC), the main sanctioning body for professional boxing in that country affiliated with the WBC, visited the offices of the body in Mexico City, to present an interesting project: the Professional Boxing League of India (IPBL) where they will seek to support and promote new talents from the region.

The WBC held a course for Boxing trainers in Shanghai, China, gathering a large number of participants, providing them with an intensive and comprehensive education on the basics and fundamentals of boxing training. The WBC Far East team led by Aku Zhang played a fundamental role in supervising the course.

At Martes de Café press conference, the “Mi Chante” Foundation represented by Abelardo Peña, announced that its 5th Golf Tournament will be held in honor of Don José Sulaimán, WBC President for Life.

Vergil Ortiz Jr. overcame two knockdowns to defeat Ukrainian Serhii Bohachuk and be crowned interim WBC super welterweight champion, in one of the best fights of this year.

Norway’s Cecilia Braekhus used all her experience to dominate American Maricela Cornejo and be crowned interim WBC super welterweight champion.

August 9

The Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame had a successful weekend of activities, culminating with the induction dinner for its 2023-2024 members, who now take their place alongside the boxing immortals of the Hall’s first ten years.

August 5

WBC Cares awarded the Winners of the Girls and Boys Club Summer Course that took place over several weeks. The ceremony was attended by Christiane Manzur, President of WBC Cares Mexico; Alejandra Palomino, Director of the Girls and Boys Club; as well as Estrella Valverde, WBC international champion.

August 3

American Terence Crawford defeated the Uzbek Israil Madrimov by unanimous decision, in a great card that took place at the BMO Stadium in Los Angeles, California, in the first edition of Riyadh Season Card, in the United States.

In a great card presented by Riyadh Season in the United States, the WBC recognized Turki Alalshikh for his great work in organizing the fights that fans want to see in all regions of the world.

Caroline Dubois won the WBC interim lightweight title by beating Maira Moneo by unanimous decision, at the Oakwell Stadium in Barnsley, United Kingdom.

Sergei Radchenko won the WBC Silver Bridger title at the Sports Palace in kyiv, Ukraine.
