Yesenia ‘Niña’ Gómez was scheduled to defend her World Boxing Council light flyweight title this Thursday in Quebec, against the undefeated Kim Clavel, but unfortunately covid has prevented it.
Kim Clavel tested positive for Covid 19 as confirmed by promoter Yvon Michel this morning:
“We learned that unfortunately Kim Clavel contracted the COVID-19 virus. Unfortunately, her fight this Thursday, April 21 against the champion Yesenia Gómez will not be able to take place. We will release more details soon.”
Clavel, 31 years old and undefeated in 15 fights, has been preparing the Latina groundwork to face the champion, since 5 of her last 6 opponents have been of Mexican nationality, in addition to having faced 11 Mexican boxers since her professional debut after Olympic dazzle.
Gómez Vázquez, 26, has defended the crown against excellent rivals and hopes to return to the ring soon.
The WBC wishes Kim a speedy recovery.n.
