Ginjro Shideoka underwent the operation after his split decision defeat to Pedro Taduran.
Moments after the decision was made official, Shigeoka collapsed in the ring and was carried out on a stretcher.
In July last year, Taduran knocked Ginjiro out in the ninth round and the Japanese fighter collapsed in the ring. After suffering a fractured orbital bone, Shigeoka was discharged from hospital and given the go-ahead for a rematch against Taduran.
The World Boxing Council and its president, Mauricio Sulaiman, wish him a speedy and full recovery.
