All that glitters isn’t Gold, in a duel of former world champions, Mikey Garcia fights Jessie Vargas, over 12 rounds with the Diamond Belt of the World Boxing Council at stake, this Saturday at The Ford Center in Frisco, Texas.
Garcia (39-1, 30 knockouts) will make his DAZN debut with promoter Eddie Hearn, in the same state as his last fight. Mikey has decided to continue his career at 147 pounds and will have an important test against Vargas. He will return to the ring almost a year after the overwhelming defeat he suffered against Errol Spence Jr.
“Against Spence I felt that things did not go as we thought. Sometimes we can have a bad night. I felt tired, without strength. Physically I feel better. I am more focused than last time. Against Spence I increased a lot of muscle which made me slower, but I’ve been training with bigger boxers for a while now and I feel that I now belong to this division.
“Physically he is bigger, but in boxing I am superior. I have better defense, reflexes, hand and leg coordination. Those will be my weapons, ”Garcia reiterated.
Meanwhile, Jessie Vargas (29-2-2, 11 KOs) has already tasted welterweight zenith glory and is looking to return to the Summit of this division by defeating a rival of Mikey’s caliber.
“I know Mikey is a good fighter. I respect him, but the moment the bell rings it is time to fight. I plan to have a fantastic performance to the point where he is surprised and recognizes that I am one of the very best in the division.”
