The World Boxing Council and the world boxing community breathe a sigh of relief, that finally Miguel Ángel González was admitted to the “Nueva Vida” Clinic in Ecatepec, State of Mexico, to support him in his recovery and to overcome his current situation.
WBC President Mauricio Sulaimán said: “It will be a tough fight but it will be won,” because he knows Miguel Angel will use the willpower which made him a world champion, to resolve these problems and come out ahead, by successfully completing his rehabilitation.
Miguel Angel González made 10 successful defenses of the WBC lightweight title, a championship that he won on August 24, 1992.
He faced rivals Oscar de la Hoya and Julio César Chávez, with whom he drew. Just yesterday October 7, it was 15 years since he retired from the ring.
The WBC makes every effort to help, as it has done in the case of other champions who have been in a similar situation and who have recovered to come out ahead.
We thank in a very special way all those who showed concern and have supported us to take this first step.
Julio César Chávez will participate actively throughout the process until Miguel Angel is fully recovered.
