World Boxing Council light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev (15-0, 15 KOs) will defend his title against Chinese contender Meng Fanlong (16-0, 10 Ko’s) on Saturday, March 28 at the Videotron Center in the city of Quebec, Canada
Meng, originally from Chifeng, China, was an Olympic fighter in 2012. He debuted as pro in January 2015. He is a talented boxer with a long history as an amateur. Last June, he survived a knock down in the eighth round, to secure a unanimous decision over then-undefeated Adam Deines. He was back in action last October in New Jersey, getting a second round victory over Gilberto Rubio.
Fanlong is doing a comprehensive preparation, as he intends to become the first Chinese boxer to capture a world title in the light heavyweight division. He also claims to be inspired because he wants to bring some sorely needed joy to his country, due to the difficult time it’s enduring with the outbreak of the coronavirus.
Russian-born champion Beterbiev will make the first defense of the WBC title he won by knocking out former Ukrainian champion Oleksandr “The Nail” Gvozdyk.
Beterbiev vs. Fanlong will be broadcast LIVE on ESPN. Promoted by Top Rank, in association with Groupe Yvon Michel, Roc Nation Sports, and Gestev, tickets are priced in Canadian dollars of $ 542, $ 330, $ 275, $ 137, $ 104, $ 75, and $ 55 and are already on sale through www.ticketmaster.ca and at the Videotron Center box office.
