On August 24the at the Hermosillo Multipurpose Center, Sonora, Zanfer, Matchroom Boxing, Latin Sports and 2 M Promotions, will host WBC super flyweight champion, with Juan Francisco “Gallo” Estrada, defending his title for the first time, against American Dewayne Beamon (16-1-1, 11 ko’s).
The Hermosillo Multipurpose Center has held an array of outstanding and spectacular boxing events starring national and international boxing champions.
Jorge ¨Cocas¨ Ramirez, the greatest local idol, packing out the CUM at the end of the eighties and in the first half of the nineties. He was crowned national champion in 1988 knocking out Yucatecan`s Roger Arevalo, and on March 8, 1991, he fought Jorge “Maromero” Páez.
Ramírez came to that fight with a record of 56-5-3 and as national super featherweight champion, while Páez with a record of 36-3-3, came from knocking out Javier “Changa” Márquez.
The fight was spectacular, with two warriors initiating lively and constant exchanges. That night Paez put aside his extravagant personality and began to fight seriously, while “Cocas”, tried to impose his style with all his might. The fight went a rugged, ruthless ten rounds, and “Maromero” won by decision.
That fabled evening, a record attendance was set, with ten thousand people in the CUM. Now, that`s expected to be broken by Estrada vs. Beamon
