World Boxing Council middleweight champion Claressa Shields did her training camp for her next fight at the Mayweather Boxing Club in Las Vegas, owned by legendary former world champion Floyd Mayweather.
Shields will make her UK debut as a professional on Saturday night in a glamorous bout against Ema Kozin in Cardiff.
In an interview with SKY SPORTS, Claressa commented on some aspects of the fight that she will hold in Wales:
“Not many American fans have the experience of going to see what the fans are like in the UK. Floyd told me I was going in the right direction. He told me a lot about his experience fighting Ricky Hatton. We talked a lot about my skills, but also about the difference between amateurs and professionals. In pros you really must stay calm and take your time. Even in two-minute rounds, he would tell me to slow down and really see the punches coming.
“The opportunity with Mayweather just came along. Floyd opened up his gym for me and my team. It was great to see him train and be in his presence. It was great to talk to him too and really see what he’s like. It’s tremendous to know he’s a big fan of mine and that he and his kids like to watch my fights. It was a a memorable experience.”
