Eddie Hearn, promoter of world champion Anthony Joshua, was mightily impressed by what he saw with WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder defeating mandatory challenger Dominic Breazeale in less than a single round at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
In 2016, Breazeale lasted seven rounds with Joshua, who was making the first defense of the IBF world title.
Joshua will return to the ring on June 1, when he faces Andy Ruiz at Madison Square Garden in New York, in what will be Joshua’s debut in the United States.
If Joshua defeats Ruiz, Hearn hopes that the mega battle with Wilder be next.
“That was a great victory for Deontay, and it was thrilling to see him. He took care of his opponent in an impressive way. So now Joshua must do the same against Ruiz Jr. On June 1. The fight between Joshua and Wilder is the biggest and more anticipated. Therefore, there are no excuses, for not making this fight happen,” Hearn told Sky Sports.
“The fight between them would be great, involving two big, fast, dangerous and brave world heavyweight champions who can knock out in the blink of an eye. It’s a necessary fight, so I hope Wilder can be present on the day of Joshua’s fight.”
