
This morning in the facilities of Federal Protection, the signing of collaboration agreement between the Federal Police service and the National Commission against addictions with superstars Julio Cesar Chavez and Pipino Cuevas helping to champion and spearhead the vital cause.
The event was led and introduced by Dr. Francisco Alfonso Durazo Montaño, Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, José Pedro Vizuet Bicanegra, Dr. Nora Leticia Frías Melgosa, General Director of Care and Treatment in Addictions, and the President of the WBC, Mauricio Sulaiman.
Dr. Nora Leticia Frias Melgosa, General Director of Care and Treatment of Addictions, explained that drug use is already a problem of public safety that has grown alarmingly especially among youth, with the consumption of drugs and alcohol alarmingly starting earlier and that the growing supply has made these substances more reachable.
She stressed that consumption among girls between 12 and 15 years of age has increased alarmingly by 205%, which is why she praised this initiative because only combined concerted efforts and comprehensive work can help stem this problem.
Dr. Francisco Durazo, Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, stated that one of the strategies of Security established by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador is to give priority to the issue that afflicts us, because according to official statistics this consumption exacerbates the rates of violence among young people.
He applauded this great initiative that aims to establish collaboration mechanisms in order to develop an umbrella of prevention and care programs where sport is one of the ways to steer young people away from the wrong path.
He thanked the presence of all the guests, but in a very special way Julio César Chávez who`s set a courageous example for all those who are struggling with their battles, also praising the leader of the WBC, who`s working tirelessly for the welfare of society to conquer this terrible affliction.
Julio César Chávez Mexico`s greatest boxer won 107 victories in the ring. But his toughest must gutsy battle was to overcome addictions, which took almost fifteen years, and he`s been clear for ten years. He himself has opened four clinics to help others win this deadly struggle. He said: “I had very tough fights in the ring, I won a lot of money, but my most difficult battle is the one I fought outside the ring, a fight that lasted 15 years and that led me to lose so much. I even, at that time I thought about taking my life.
“From experience I can tell you that this disease does not cure itself, it requires the support not only of the family but also from society. I have seen how people of all ages arrive to my clinics completely destroyed, with problems that are sometimes seem irreversible, desperate, asking for help, many without hope. However, I have also witnessed how with a little help you can get ahead and become a healthy person.
“Today I can tell you that I have been clean for 10 years and I cannot be more grateful to God and to life. ”
In this way today, a commitment was signed that encourages everyone to work together for social welfare and especially for our youth and children.
Dr Durazo stressed: “We can all fall, but we all have the right to fight back, with a helping hand. It is an honor Julio Cesar has signed this agreement.”
