Surely on more than one occasion you`ve heard of clenbuterol – a substance that is illegal in sports, but for which many high-performance athletes have tested positive.
Clenbuterol is a drug that is mainly associated with the treatment of respiratory diseases, due to its bronchodilator effect. However, as it has physiological effects similar to anabolic steroids, one of the most common uses in sport is associated with increased skeletal muscle mass, increased production of muscle strength, and endurance. It`s also been found to help improve muscle growth after injury.
In 1965, it was demonstrated that many animals fed with clenbuterol, increased muscle mass decreasing fat tissue, which is why in many countries used it with cattle since, in this way, meat could be marketed in less time reducing the cost to producers. However, this practice was prohibited since the terrible damage it caused to human and animal health was discovered.
However, in some regions of Mexico it is still used, so that a good part of the beef consumed in Mexico is contaminated with clenbuterol. At this point, it has been shown that the consumption of contaminated meat, that is, animals that have been artificially bulked up , can lead to positive results in the urine of athletes, as has happened in several cases.
Now as a fat burner product it may seem highly attractive; However, we must understand that the effects of its consumption can bring serious health effects including:
Headache
Tremors in the hands
Tachycardia
Excessive sweating
Hypertension
Sickness
Insomnia
Muscle cramps
Arrhythmia
Cardiac atrophy
Enlargement of the aortic artery
Some studies have revealed that while taking this medication and practicing sports, can reduce the presence of taurine in the liver, in addition to producing a deficit of electrolytes such as sodium and potassium, which can be associated with insufficient hydration. In addition, long-term use can lead to cell death, which is why this is one of the most dangerous substances.
