The World Boxing Council light flyweight champion, Canadian Kim Clavel, will face the WBA champion from Mexico Jessica Nery Plata, in an intense unification duel this Friday, January 13, at Place Bell Laval in Quebec, Canada.
Kim, 31, won her WBC crown on July 29 in Montreal, defeating titleholder Yesenia Gomez, from Mexico, by a 10-round unanimous decision at the Casino de Montreal. She became the second woman and the eighth GYM Promotions World Champion. Clavel has a record of 16-0, with 3 knockouts.
Jessica won her title by dethroning former Argentine champion Yesica Bopp in March last year, in Panama. Plata has a record of 28-2, with 3 knockouts.
Both fighters were face to face at a press conference where they assured that they would offer up a truly great and memorable fight:
“My promoter was very happy with my last performance when I won the title from Yesenia Gómez. He was obviously motivated to allow me to unify the titles. He told me that he believed that I was at the top of my career and that I deserved to fight for another title. I am ready for this important challenge and in excellent shape. We are going to put up a great fight and I am going to win the victory,” commented Clavel.
Plata said: “I am very motivated for this fight. I had a great training camp and the work we did I will show on Friday. I am going to return with the world titles to Mexico.”
