Interim World Boxing Council super bantamweight champion Kudakwashe “Takemoney” Chiwandire will face tough former Mexican world champion Zulina Muñoz, defending her title for the first time, on August 20 in Harare, Zimbabwe.
A few days ago a press conference was held where the fight was officially announced. Chiwandire, who defeated Zambian Cathrine Phiri to win the title earlier this year, vowed to not only defeat Munoz, but also knock her out.
The champion was joined at the press conference by her manager and promoter, Clyde Musonda of Deltaforce Boxing Academy, and the executive director of the Zimbabwe National Boxing and Wrestling Board of Control, Lawrence Zimbudzana.
Munoz, 34, is the more experienced of the two, with 58 professional fights and 52 wins, of which 30 were by knockout. Chiwandire, for her part, has won five fights and lost two.
“It’s a different case between Munoz and Phiri, but I’m sure I can knock her out despite her experience. It will be a total knockout,” Chiwandire said.
“The training that I was doing, preparing for the Phiri fight, I will do twice as much so that I can beat Munoz with a knockout. I am particularly excited about this fight because I am defending the title in Zimbabwe, something that has always been my dream as a boxer. As a woman, I hope that the organization of this event will continue to inspire more women in Zimbabwe to participate in any sport of their choice. I am confident that once again we are ready to make history for our beautiful country.”
