Super welterweight world champions Jermell Charlo and Brian Castaño will square off in a rematch for supremacy of the 154-pound division this Saturday, May 14 in the main event at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.
Charlo and Castaño held a tense final press conference this prior to the big fight. And
Both made it crystal clear it won’t go the distance.
Jermell Charlo:
“I just must be dominant. I have to be the best Jermell Charlo, they haven’t seen that yet. I’m going to dominate this fight differently than I fought the last fight.
“Castaño is the same fighter that he has been in every fight. He is going to come, and he will keep coming back. I’m going to use everything I learned from that fight on Saturday night. I will fully use the skills that I have been blessed with.
“I am going to be stronger, faster, and smarter than ever. Thank you Castaño, for giving me more time to prepare. I am grateful for my opportunities. This is my moment on which I am focused. He’s my target and I’m going to bust him. I know what I have, I know who I am, and I know where I come from.
“I have worked very hard since last July. I know that with the dedication that I and Derrick James, along with my entire team, put in, we are ready.
Brian Castano:
“I prepare very seriously for each opponent that I have in front of me. This time, it’s Charlo, and I promise I’ll be more than ready to put on a show for the fans on Saturday night.
“He can say what he wants. I couldn’t care less if he wants to knock me out. Let’s go out there and see if he can take my punishment for 12 rounds.
“I don’t have a specific weapon that is better than him, because I adapt my style to my opponent. Charlo is going to see what I have in store for him. I am more than ready to show that what I have prepared is more than enough to get the victory.
“Charlo is a top-tier fighter. That is true. But at this level, one always has power. Only one opponent has sent me to the mat, and it hasn’t been Charlo. He is strong, but there is nothing in his power that really stands out to me compared to other fighters I have faced.”
The fight is organized by Premier Boxing Champions and will be broadcast on Showtime.
