Challenges of Amateur Boxing

The report of amateur boxing at the WBC’s Convention in Uzbekistan, identified various issues which need to be decisively dealt with.

Amateur boxing is by no means out of the woods with the IOC and whether it will be included in the Los Angeles Olympics is still open to debate. Members of this relatively new WBC committee, which is entirely separate from the pro sphere, have been active. All events need to be properly registered and correctly authorized, as some are using WBC logos without permission.

Brad Norman showed via two videos how WBC funding is channeled through WBC Cares. Boxers and coaches unlock a giant shipping container containing a whole gym load of equipment including gloves, punch bags, matts, ropes, and weights.

Super bantamweight Bernice Ferreira who was interviewed on film two, said: “These gyms are accessible for everyone. It teaches you discipline and respect. This is my life and this is boxing.”
