Training in Indio, California, in Joel Diaz’s gymnasium, Julio “Pollito” Ceja, continues with his grinding preparation towards the elimination bout on June 23 at the Events Center from Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, versus former World Champion Guillermo “Chacal” Rigondeaux.
“He is a very tough opponent. This definitely isn`t just about throwing punches, you have to know how to use your intelligence. We’re smarter and we’re working on that, to be effective, so as not give him any chance.”
Guided by his mentor Agustín “La Zorrita” Luna, Ceja (32-3 and 28 KO’s) it`s abundantly clear that Rigondeaux (18-1 and 12 KO’s) he can not be given any type of concessions.
“It is very clear what we have to do. I must go out to do my boxing, not giving a chance or opportunity for his style. It`s focus! We need to work with intelligence and the first opportunity to attack. We saw the fight he had with Lomachenko and within that, we found many things that can be very useful to us.”
Being an Eliminatory fight, there is much at stake for both. While the Mexican occupies first place in the world rankings of the World Boxing Council, the Cuban is in the third position, so the winner will be the official challenger of the division.
Also in July 13, the current champion Rey Vargas defends the Green and Gold belt of the WBC against Japanese Interim champion, Tomoki “Mexicanito” Kameda.
If Ceja gets the victory he will be one significant step closer to the opportunity of reconquering the super bantam world belt, while Rigondeaux is going all out for his third crown.
