Javier Castillejo, also known as ‘El Lince de Parla’, is a former world champion and whose greatest merit has shone recent days.
The champ from Madrid is volunteering for the Red Cross collaborating with the older people in his community.
“I am bringing food to the homes of people who cannot leave their homes. We shop for the elderly and bring them food and everything they need,” he said.
“We go to their homes, they give us his task list and we buy it for them and take it home.” The initiative is part of a cooperation of the Red Cross with a supermarket that contributes with cards of 30 euros that provides food for the old people.
Castillejo also admits that in many cases it is hard to see the reality that these people face. “I am very sorry that there are so many older people alone. You cannot imagine how happy they are and they even want to tip me. They cry with joy because you have helped them. This is harder than boxing.
“The virus must be taken seriously because it kills. Some overcome it, but others do not, it affects a lot of older people and spreads easily and quickly. The most important thing is not to leave the house. You have to wash your hands many times with soap and water. There are people who have it without knowing it and when they touch something the contagions come. You have to be very careful and try to stay at home,” Castillejo concluded.
