Carrington crowned new WBC Silver champion

Brooklyn featherweight Bruce Carrington pulled off a tough 10-round majority decision victory over Ugandan contender Sulaiman Segawa, by scores of 95-95 and 97-93 on two scorecards, to be crowned the WBC Silver featherweight champion.

Segawa (17-5-1, 6 KOs) came into the fight confident after his upset win over Ruben Villa in July. He looked to repeat that success against Carrington (13-0, 8 KOs), landing quick counterpunches on him in the opening rounds.

Carrington found his rhythm during rounds three and four, moving forward with a focused body attack. But Segawa answered in the fifth round, and the two traded punches while jockeying for position and avoiding counterpunches.

Segawa threw more punches throughout the fight, though he toned down the intensity in the final round. Carrington won the tenth round on all three scorecards.
