Canada’s Caroline Veyre became the new World Boxing Council super featherweight champion after defeating the experienced Belgian Delfine Persoon by unanimous decision.
The fight was part of a card presented by Salita Promotions at GLC Live at 20 Monroe in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Veyre (11-1), a 37-year-old also reinforced by a standout amateur career, prior to the pro ranks, managed to impose her hand speed during moments at a distance, but found herself entangled in the wily, physical and pressure-heavy style of Persoon (50-4, 20 KOs).
The bout became so rugged that the referee had to intervene on several occasions, even deducting two points from each boxer. The judges favored Veyre’s precision with scores of 94-92, 95-91, and a wide 99-88.
