Cano KO`s Linares in round one
In a sensational shocker, Pablo César Cano knocked out former world champion Jorge “El Niño de Oro” Linares in less than one round, after sending him to the canvass three times, at Madison Square Garden Theater in New York.
In his return campaign, after three defeats in four of his last bouts, Cano defeated Ruslan Madiev in September last year. That victory allowed him to obtain the international silver super lightweight title of the World Boxing Council, which he defended with this thunderbolt performance.
Cano started very quickly and within 20 seconds of starting the fight, he surprised and dropped Linares with a peach of a right hook to the head.
Linares stood up, but. Cano threw everything he`d got and an even more powerful right, again dropped Linares, but this time much harder.
Linares again stood up, tried to trade punches, but a left hook sent him back down for the third time to the canvas, bravely delaying the inevitable. After a series one sided exchanges, the Referee Ricky Gonzalez stopped the fight.
With this victory, “El Demoledor” Cano improved his record to 32-7-1, 22 knockouts, while Linares left the ring with a record of 45-5, 28 knockouts.
