World Boxing Council super middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, will defend his title against the Turkish Avni Yildirim on February 27 at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
Today, the official announcement of this fight was made, and although it was originally hoped it could be held in Mexico, due to the pandemic it will be Miami.
This will be the first defense of the 168-pound title that “Canelo” won by defeating British Callum Smith last December.
“Avni Yildirim is a good fighter and I know we will have an exciting fight. I am very happy to be able to bring this event to Miami, just a short distance from where my hero, Muhammad Ali trained. February 27 will be a great night for the sport. , ”Saul commented.
Avni Yildirim, the mandatory world title challenger, will return to activity after losing a close technical decision against former champion Anthony Dirrell.
