Canelo KO´s Plant in eleven to become Undisputed Super Middleweight champion
Saul “Canelo” Alvarez ruthlessly TKO`d Caleb Plant to seize the fourth and final belt and become the undisputed Super middleweight champion in spectacular fashion, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena thrilling more than fifteen thousand delighted fans, many of them Mexicans, who witnessed a tremendous contest, in which he cut down the distance, slowed down the brisk pace of his wily opponent with a constant unrelenting body barrage attack, and then moved to the head, to inflict two knockdowns in a torrid eleventh round, which emphatically closed the show.
After the second knockdown Referee Russell Mora stopped the fight at the one minute five second mark, with a dazed and battered Caleb in no position to defend himself from the blitzing snowstorm ice capped onslaught.
A massive left hook to the head a right uppercut and a left hook from an irresistible on surging Canelo dropped Caleb. Somehow, he managed to regain his feet, but wobbled and then staggered across the ring. Canelo was in hot pursuit, knowing full well it was the end and insuring there was no escape, by swiftly and efficiently following up with a left, right left combination. This time Caleb was knocked down flat on his back… and it was all over.
As Canelo and his team had predicted, it had taken time, patience, precise marksmanship and a sustained body attack round after torrid round, to crease, fray, tear, hole and bludgeon Caleb`s skilled and brave resistance, slowing him down and slowing him up, so he could be finally overwhelmed and then dispatched.
A Jubilant Canelo pulled on the elegant black WBC T shirt given to him by World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman, and then draped the famous Green and Gold Belt over his left arm and the specially crafted uniquely wondrous and ornate Teotihuacan Belt over his right arm, with other belts being held by Trainer Eddy Reynoso who then draped them on him to adorn him with a rainbow of championships. Four is a dream fulfilled and proves Canelo`s supreme status as the pound for pound best fighter on the Planet. A gold crown was placed upon his head. So, a red gold triumph. The Sun King reigns!
Earned and deserved great respect from the two of them and between them after it was all over, with no residual hard feelings. They embraced in a display of magnificent sportsmanship. Caleb warmly congratulated Canelo, who praised him for a more than able performance, which made it a great and memorable fight, savoured as well as enjoyed by millions around the World.
A thrilled Canelo thanked all the fans and especially his family plus his team, for helping and allowing him to make the many necessary and exacting sacrifices, which have gone into a sparkling pro career, that started at the tender age of fifteen with a slim, willowy teenager and has culminated in this wonderful zenith triumph at the age of a fully matured thirty-one-year-old. He`s now one of six fighters in history to be a unified champion. He said, he`s so happy to be among them and declared : “This is for everyone in Mexico. Viva Mexico cabrones!”
Canelo was quick to give fulsome praise to Caleb saying it had been a great fight, he`s a worthy fighter and: “It took a bit of work to win!” He also said that Caleb had graciously apologized for the Mother jibe, which had generated the presser ill will irritation stressing: “I said everything is OK and encouraged him to keep going.” Canelo wouldn`t be drawn on what`s next, sighing slightly, saying he wants a well-deserved rest, and then we`ll see. He reached down into the press benches to shake hands with the great Julio Cesar Chavez, who was smiling broadly and appreciatively. A poignant and gracious finishing touch to the greatest night in a great career thus far…with even more to come.
Caleb initially proved awkward, using an accurate left jab which snapped up from a low trajectory, but as early as the second round Canelo was connecting to head and body, intent on cutting down the distance and with it, as the fight wore on, finally that plucky resistance. The palpable first warning sign emerged in the fourth with a crunching left hook to the head from Canelo, but at this stage a superbly conditioned Caleb absorbed it well and fired back with jabs, laterally moving to intelligently make himself an elusive fluidly moving target. He too was enthused and instilled with the will and the pride of a world champion.
The turning point came as Canelo launched a big attack in the sixth landing two heavy rights to the face followed by more clusters of blows which backed up Plant. Canelo nonchalantly draped his fists by his side getting clipped for his bravado. But from then on, more and more often he was backing Caleb on to the ropes working on the body, yet sometimes taking stinging lefts to the head to achieve his task. Wonderful defiance from Caleb who towards the end of the ninth landed a crisp left right combination to the head and a hard left jab, which snapped back Canelo`s head.
Caleb fought bravely but the numbers and weight plus increasing volume of punches were wearing him down and his mobility, which had initially provided him the range and leverage he needed, was lessoning. It was steadily and noticeably ebbing away. Another attack to the body, set up the lightning strikes to the head, which thunderously resounded to conclude the contest, proving Canelo is relentless, heavy handed accurate and brilliantly capable of delivering the cannon fire plus mortars volleys, when cracks in the defence of a tiring opponent provide openings and with it, opportunities for bombs, leading on to the avalanche of a dividend windfall.
