
WBC super middleweight champion Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez will defend his belt on September 14 against Puerto Rican Edgar Berlanga.
This fight is extremely special for several reasons, including the fact that #CaneloBerlanga adds a new chapter to the Puerto Rico vs Mexico boxing rivalry, and the fact that the fight will be held in one of the most important boxing venues: The T-Mobile Arena in September.
Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez debuted as pro in 2005 and has built a career full of success and triumphs.
He has conquered the super welterweight, middleweight, super middleweight and light heavyweight divisions.
Canelo won the WBC 168-pound crown by defeating Callum Smith by UD on December 19, 2020 and has remained on the throne ever since. He will make his eighth defense against Berlanga.
Edgar Berlanga, 27, will have the opportunity of a lifetime to challenge Canelo for his world titles.
Edgar was born on May 18, 1997, and since he was 7 years old, he began to develop his love for boxing. From his first steps he knew that his destiny would be inside the ring and accompanied by his father. Edgar was enhanced his path by knocking out rivals. Currently, Berlanga has a record of 22-0 with 17 victories by knockout.

Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez defeated former world champion Jaime Munguía by unanimous decision. The fight began with Munguía more aggressive and attacking Canelo with power punches and an effective jab. Canelo began to take control of the fight by landing the clearest and best punches on a Munguía who showed a big heart. Saul clearly prevailed on the cards with scores of 116-111, 115-112 and 117-110.
Charlo
On September 30, 2023, he defeated Jermell Charlo in a clear way retaining the undisputed super middleweight championship
Ryder
Canelo faced John Ryder on May 6, 2023 in his long-awaited return home, defeating him via unanimous decision with scores of 120-107 and 2x 118-109.

Bivol
In 2022, Canelo ventured back to 175 pounds to face the undefeated Bivol, in a close fight Canelo was defeated by unanimous decision in Las Vegas.

In what was his first 12-round fight, Edgar showed his power throughout the fight by putting the tough Jason Quigley on the canvas 3 times.
Romero Alexis Angulo
In his second home supported by his people in New York, Berlanga took a wide victory by way of unanimous decision. The fight took place in June 2022.
Steve Rolls
In what was one of his toughest tests, Edgar took the win via UD in March 2022.
Marcelo Coceres
Berlanga recovered from a knock down in the ninth to take the win via UD in October 2021.
