The first world champion of the World Boxing Council, Jackie Nava offered her conference “The power of your fear” to the more than 500 students, who gathered in the gymnasium of the Benito Juárez Autonomous University of Oaxaca.
It was an important part of the awareness talks, boxing Clínics and Cultural eventos presented by WBC Cares during the week of the Guelaguetza Champions.
A keynote event for the students of the Sports Training majors, in addition to the Faculty of Law and Sports Sciences and the Faculty of Physical Culture; Also students from the ICEO Universitario of Oaxaca and the COBAO of Oaxaca, listened attentively to Jackie’s experiences that led her to realize that “with fear you either become stunned or you move.
“That’s what I have learned in these more than 20 years as professional boxer, but also in my entire history that I have already told you about, since I was a child when the gym teacher told me that I was fat and that I had to stop eating one day and I was only 4 years old,” Nava recalled.
For his part, Rocky Heron, a former DEA agent, showed them what happens in the world of drugs, the physical damage caused to people who decide to use and abuse prohibited substances.
They also heard the boxing + drug addiction side of former champion José Luis “Maestrito” López.
For her part, Beka Romero, WBC Cares ambassador, presented The KO Bullying Program in order to address violent behavior and bullying.
The students also participated in dynamics which helped them reinforce the topics addressed on the last day of the talks.
At the event, the University authorities were present and were grateful that these talks had been given to raise awareness among young people.
In addition, former boxer María Goretti received special recognition from the Women’s Institute.
