Chantelle Cameron (20-1, 8 KOs), of Northampton, England, made the first defense of her interim WBC super lightweight belt by defeating 30-year-old Patricia Berghult of Sweden.
Cameron, 33, dominated Berghult throughout the battle in Birmingham, England. It was Cameron’s second victory since losing to Katie Taylor nearly a year ago in what is considered one of the greatest fights in women’s boxing history.
Cameron kept her guard up throughout the fight, landing powerful combinations, using the entire ring, walking forward and even though she took hits, it was clear that her punching power was completely superior to her opponent’s.
Cameron increased the pressure as the fight developed and at times it seemed that she was going to end the fight by knockout; however, Berghult showed great heart, resilience and courage.
“I think I made a big statement here and I want a chance to win back my belts.
