“Brummie” Sam Eggington outpointed Mexico’s Carlos “King” Molina in a close twelve rounds battle, to win the World Boxing Council Silver Middleweight title at Coventry Skydome Arena.
Eggington, 27, knew he would be in a tough battle with Molina, who had never been stopped in 50 fights, and had prepared hard at the famous Eastside Gym with renowned trainer John Pegg.
The hard work paid off when Eggington recorded his first victory over a Mexican opponent and the WBC Silver title, bringing him one step closer to a world title challenge.
In a brisk battle they traded fiercely and often, but Eggington took lofty advantage of his extra stature.
The judges’ scores were 116-112, 119-109 and 117-111, all in favor of the fit Brit.
