The World Boxing Council closed October, the pink month, with a flourish.
Thanks to Mr. Omar Reyes Colmenares, who is the Undersecretary of the Mexico City Penitentiary System, and Mr. César Abraham Flores Sandoval, Executive Director of Prevention and Social Reintegration, who allowed access to part of the WBC team to teach an activity concerning breast cancer prevention in this prison, east of Mexico City.
A self-care and exploration workshop were held to prevent breast cancer, called “Victory is pink: KO breast cancer.” Those in charge of imparting said workshop were Bernice Fuentes Gaytan, who is a boxer, breast cancer survivor and last year was awarded by the WBC Cares as “Hero of Humanity” and the psychologist Diana Lucía Sosa Cortés, who currently works as a member of the WBC Medical Committee and Faculty of WBC University.
Both joined with the inmates of the Santa Martha Acatitla women’s prison, providing information, as well as prevention and psychoeducation strategies to be able to identify the risk factors for breast cancer, carry out a correct self-examination and have healthy lifestyle habits.
Breast cancer is a often a preventable illness, and the World Boxing Council provides measures to actively unite with society, and in an inclusive manner with the prison population.
