Norway’s Cecelia Braekhus will face Maricela Cornejo for the interim WBC super welterweight title, on a card presented by Golden Boy Promotions at the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
Cornejo is a tough test for Braekhus, who once looked unbeatable at welterweight and held world titles from 2009 to 2020, before losing to Jessica McCaskill.
She also lost the rematch before moving up to super welterweight. In her previous fight, she tied with Terri Harper in a disputed fight.
Cornejo is 3-0 since losing to Clarissa Shields in 2023.
This Friday both fighters passed the official weigh-in. Braekhus registered 153 pounds, while Cornejo was 154.6 pounds.
*The WBC allows a pound of tolerance the official weigh in, considerating the effects of the menstrual cycle.
