WBC super welterweight champion Sebastian “The Towering Inferno” Fundora and Chordale Booker fight this Saturday night at the Michelob ULTRA Arena at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.
The event, presented by PBC Championship Boxing, will stream exclusively on Prime Video in the United States and other countries.
Fundora, with a record of 21-1-1 (13 KOs), will engage in an exacting test against Booker, who has a record of 23-1 (11 KOs).
Chordale Booker, although aware he is not the hot favorite to win the fight, is cool, calm and motivated by the opportunity to pursue and hunt down the 154-pound world title.
“There’s no pressure. On the contrary, this motivates me more. I’m sure everyone thinks I’m going to lose. Everyone says they’re going to knock me out. Everyone says things. Most people—you’ve probably done your homework and watched my videos—but a lot of fans are just driven by popularity. If you have 100,000 followers, you’re great. If you have 20,000 followers, you’re a terrible fighter. That’s the world we live in now,” Booker noted.
Booker is a self-confident, self reliant fighter ready-to-make-an-impact rather than an impression. But he knows that, with Fundora, he has an unusual style problem: the 6’5″, 154-pound reed-like fighter who is also southpaw and difficult to read, can use his size if necessary, but he’s known for closing in and getting into close-quarters fights.
“I don’t think anyone can really be ready for Fundora until they get in the ring, start going a couple of rounds, and sort of get a sense of his height and arm length,” admits Booker, who is also southpaw but is only 5’9″.
“But I’ve had sparring partners his height, taller and shorter, who fought with a similar style to him,” the challenger continued. “Sure, they couldn’t beat him, or else they’d be where he is. But I don’t think height will be a deciding factor in the fight. I don’t know what Fundora will bring to the ring, but I’m ready for anything.”
