World Boxing Council super featherweight champion Miguel “Alacrán” Berchelt and number one challenger Miguel “Mickey” Roman fight this Saturday at the Don Haskins Center stadium in El Paso, Texas to resolve their intense compatriot rivalry.
Berchelt (34-1, 30 KOs), of Cancun, Mexico, is the 26-year-old champion looking for his fourth successful world title defense. Román (60-12, 47 KOs), from Juárez, Mexico, is 32 years old and will make his third attempt to win a world title.
“Roman and I have wanted this fight for a long, long time. He asked for it and he got this opportunity. This is going to be a great fight, but I know it will end with my hand up. I’m young and I’m hungry. It does not matter that we are fighting in his territory. El Paso and Juarez will be my cities when I retain my title,” declares with glares Berchelt.
“I’m very happy. I feel very great fighting for the green and gold belt against Miguel Berchelt. This is something we have been working on for a very long time. Now it is happening! On November 3rd, my people will come and support me,” replied Roman.
On the undercard, Colombian Miguel Marriaga, who has fought with Oscar Valdez and Vasiliy Lomachenko, and José Estrella in a featherweight clash.
It will also include the 2016 Olympic gold medalist and now pro Brazilian Robson Conceicao (9-0, 5 KOs), who will face Joey Laviolette (9-1, 5 KOs) in the super featherweight division.
And Saul “Neno” Rodriguez (21-0-1, 15 KOs) will return from a 20-month break to face Claudio Tapia (28-18-4, 13 KOs).
