David “Red Flag” Benavidez, reconquered the super middleweight title of the World Boxing Council, with a TKO of Anthony “The Dog” Dirrell in the ninth round at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
In the sixth round, Dirrell suffered a dangerous cut over the eye, due to a blow and he fought several rounds with a worrying wound checked several times by the ring doctor. Dirrell was allowed to fight, but the cut was a hampering factor.
With this victory, “Red Flag” Benavidez reconquered the WBC 168-pound crown, improving his record to 22-0, with 19 knockouts. Anthony “The Dog” Dirrell left the ring with his record at 33-2-1, 24 knockouts.
