WBC super middleweight Champion David Benavidez and challenger Avni Yildirim have an appointment to fight.
The mandatory super middleweight bout for the World Boxing Council belt could take place on January 25, at a venue to be defined.
“David Benavidez could face Avni Yildirim in his first defense of the title.
“Avni deserves the opportunity to obtain David’s title,” Sampson Lewkowicz, the promoter of Benavidez, told the BoxingScene.com website.
“Avni fought a very tough fight against Anthony Dirrell and everyone believes that if the fight was not stopped by the cut (suffered by Dirrell), Avni was on his way to stop him”.
Yildirim (21-2, 12KOs) was not able to get the vacant title against Dirrell last February. He suffered a split decision loss, but successfully pressed for a fight with the winner of the fight ordered by the WBC between Dirrell and Benavidez (22-0, 19KOs).
