On January 1, Cuban Luis “King Kong” Ortiz, recovered from two canvass visits, to return with a sixth round TKO of former heavyweight world champion Charles Martin, topping the bill at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, Hollywood, Florida, presented by Premier Boxing Champions (PBC).
Surprisingly, Martin dropped Ortiz in the first round with a quick combo. Although he recovered without a problem, he was knocked down again in the fourth.
In the sixth round, an accurate left hook thrown by Ortiz dazed Martin, who was out on his feet, so the Referee stopped the fight.
On the undercard, undefeated Cuban heavyweight Frank Sánchez (20-0, 13 knockouts) outpointed Christian Hammer (26-9, 16 knockouts) over ten rounds.
In a rematch, heavyweight Jonnie Rice (15-6-1, 10 knockouts) won a 10-round unanimous decision over Michael Coffie (12-2, 9 knockouts) by scores of 97-93, 97-93 and 99-91.
The WBC congratulates Premier Boxing Champions for the realization and achievement of this compelling card starting the year.
