Cuban Guillermo Rigondeaux suffered a second straight defeat losing a close but unanimous decision to Filipino Vincent Astrolabio at the Dubai Marina in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
The three judges scored the fight 95-94 in favor of Astrolabio (17-3, 12 KOs), with an eighth-round knockdown as the margin of victory over Rigondeaux (20-3, 13 KOs), a skilled former world champion.
For ten rounds, Astrolabio made Rigondeaux run out of resources, landing solid right hands on the elusive Cuban. Rigondeaux, who was coming off a close decision defeat to John Riel Casimero.
Astrolabio found the answer to the puzzle by cutting off the ring and landing harder punches.
With this triumph Astrolabio won the International title of the World Boxing Council.
