Mexican Asley ‘Chiquita’ Gonzalez (16-2-0, 7 KOs) will defend her WBC Super Flyweight world title against Spanish Mary ‘Maribicho’ Romero (10-6-0, 2 KOs) on December 12 at the Grand Elysée, Rotherbaum, in Hamburg, Germany.
Romero is faced with a new opportunity and will end the year with a fourth fight. In February she traveled to Denmark to compete in the world championship, with very little notice, in a very difficult fight against the unified bantamweight champion Dina Thorslund.
Now, Maria is once again faced with the opportunity to compete for a world title, but this time in the super flyweight division, a division in which she has never fought for a belt.
The champion González comes to this fight with six consecutive victories, the last two against Lourdes Juárez, from whom she snatched the title in October 2022. Against her is the fact that she has not fought since March of last year, although she will try to impose her quality.
Both fighters and their teams, showing their great commitment, sent the WBC their pre-weighing prior to this attractive fight that will be part of our annual Convention:
González weighed in at 53.9 kilograms – 118.8 pounds
Romero weighed in at 54.15 kilograms – 119.3 pounds
