War and peace this Saturday at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, World Boxing Council super welterweight champion, North American Jermell Charlo (33-1-0, 17 Ko’s), will face Dominican Jeison “Banana” Rosario (20-1-1, 14 Ko’s), in a unification match.
This is what they said in the final press conference where they were face to face.
JERMELL CHARLO
“Saturday night my performance will make history. This is something that I have always wanted and for which I have always trained. I have worked hard in every fight I have had.
“People will say they can’t wait to see us fight again after Saturday. We come to fight. We prepare our whole lives for this. Now is our time. Big dogs are here to stay. We are veterans at this game and we love this sport. To reach this stage, there is nothing greater for us. This is our Super Bowl.
“It’s about my legacy and my career. I want everyone to see what I’m made of. Rosario is a tough fighter with many good attributes. He comes to fight. Styles make fights and we’ll see it in the ring.
“We’re going to put on a great show. Knowing that my brother is fighting also gives me more energy. Fight night is when you see all of our excitement and all of our hard work. This is huge for us. We are both doing our thing and feeding each other of the energy of the other.
“Just being on this stage makes you buckle up and focus a lot better. I am 30 years old and I want to push myself and keep testing my limits. That is what has brought me to this stage at this point.
“I’m confident in my abilities and I’m going to get some new tricks out of my hat.”
JEISON ROSARIO
“People will see on Saturday that it was no luck that I beat Julian Williams the way I did.
“This is going to be a war. I am a warrior and I will find a way to win. That’s the only thing I have in mind.
“I don’t feel any pressure, it is an obligation, not only for my family, but for all of Latin America, to win these titles. There is no room in my mind for the possibility of not winning. That will become clear on Saturday night.
“I am prepared for the fight to go to the end, but I also have the energy to finish it early and take my chance.
“I don’t have to understand what Jermell is saying on stage to know that he thinks he’s going to win, just like I think I’m going to win. That’s what makes this a great fight, but nothing is going to change my mind.
“Training camp was great despite the pandemic. I feel strong, healthy and confident. Jermell is a great fighter with a lot of power, but I am the best fighter overall and the world will see him on Saturday. ”
