South African Hekkie Budler, ranked number 1 by the WBC, and Elwin Soto of Mexico, number 3, will meet tomorrow, June 25, at the Palenque Fex in Mexicali, Mexico, in an eliminator for the WBC light flyweight world title.
Both Budler and Soto have already been world champions. Soto, 25 (19-2, 13 KOs), lost the WBO light flyweight belt to Puerto Rican Jonathan Gonzalez via split decision.
Budler (33-4, 10 KOs), 35, is the current holder of the WBC Silver belt at 108 pounds.
Prior to his loss to Gonzalez, Soto had made three successful defenses of the WBO belt that he won in 2019 against Angel Acosta. His other loss came in his third pro fight five years ago.
Budler comes to this fight after defeating the Filipino Jonathon Alamacen for the vacant WBC Silver light flyweight title, on May 22 last year, at the Booysens Hall in Johannesburg, giving a great performance.
Today, both contenders passed the official weigh-in without any problem:
Hekkie Budler – 48.900 kg
Elwin Soto – 48.900 kg
