“Alacran” must temporarily scratch
The super featherweight WBC champion, Miguel Berchelt, had a scheduled rematch on March 23 against Francisco “Bandido” Vargas, which will now have to wait a few more weeks because the champion has suffered a hand injury.
Berchelt (35-1, 31KOs) is aiming to make the fifth defense of the 130-pound crown that he conquered by defeating Vargas. Vargas (25-1-2, 18KOs), after the loss to Berchelt, had two notable victories in his campaign for a new opportunity for the WBC crown.
“Alacran” suffered an injury to his left hand, so he will have to have a short rest period.
Sources close to the organization of the fight said that the fight could be rescheduled for May 11, a weekend after Canelo Alvarez vs. Daniel Jacobs.
