Avni Yildirim awaits the winner of the fight in which WBC super middleweight champion Anthony Dirrell defends the crown against undefeated David Benavidez next month.
Avni who lost a narrow technical decision to Dirrell, is now traning in the mountains of Big Bear, California with the guidance of famous coach Abel Sanchez. Avni will have a stay busy fight on September 28th on the undercard of the title clash at the Staples Center and then aims to challenge for the Championship in the first couple of months of next year.
Ahmet Oner, who`s Avni`s Manager, Promoter and Mentor, attended the WBC`s weekly press conference in Mexico City. He said: “My opinion is that Dirrell is a much better fighter than Benavidez. He`s a more complete and also an Olympian. Benavidez is a young kid, a strong fighter but he`s never beaten the big guys. So we`re going to see how he fares against Dirrell.”
Ahmet explains that the “Abel Factor” will provide Avni with an even greater competitive edges, commenting: “Abel will teach Avni stability and more subtle distance judgment and more precise punching. Abel came make every aspect even better and this is the perfect moment.
“Avni is waiting for his title shot and his hunger for that is burning inside. He is fired with ambition to win the Green and Gold Belt. When Avni wins the WBC belt it will open up a new market for young Turkish boxers. Turkey has a big population with eighty million people, lots of young boxing prospects and many fans.”
