
September 28th, 1979.- Wilfredo Gomez, from Puerto Rico, considered the best super bantamweight of all timed , defended his crown after defeating Panamanian, Carlos Mendoza, by TKO in 10 rounds. It took place at the Caesar´s Palace in Las Vegas. Mendoza, was a tough cookie, once having been a rival of “Hands of Stone” Duran. But against Wilfredo, the action was halted at 2 and 29 seconds of that mentioned round, after Carlos was dropped hard twice. The Referee was Richard Green, while the Judges were Art Lurie and Duane Ford.
