The WBC  welterweight champion, Shane Mosley, retained his title, defeating Antonio Diaz by TKO in 6 rounds in a match that was presented at the Madison Square Garden Theater in New York. The actions ended one minute and 36 seconds into the aforementioned round, when the referee, Arthur Mercante, intervened. All three judges, Tom Kaczmarek, Sid Rubinstein and Fred Ucci had identical scores (50-44) at the end of the bout.
