A day like today, Oscar de la Hoya defended his WBC belt

January 18, 1997.- The then undefeated, Oscar De la Hoya, defended his WBC super lightweight championship for the first time- a title he’d  conquered by defeating Julio Cesar Chavez, by defeating Miguel Angel Gonzalez via UD. The match took place at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Referee was Mills Lane, while the Judges were John Keane, Bob Logist and Anek Hongtojngkam.
