Dear Marcie and Family,
The condolences, the memories, anecdotes, tears, and muted wistful laughter, intermingled with gratitude for having the privilege of knowing this truly extraordinary man, are flooding in.
We knew full well that Steve was held in the highest regard and greatest esteem in the boxing world. His standards and the way he strived to build, maintain plus improve them, then exceed, became legendary.
But even more than that, people are mentioning and remembering with fondness, Steve’s natural and God given gift for friendship. Steve cared deeply about people and their feelings. Doing deeds for others brought him a special joy. Everyone I have spoken to has a special Steve story/ anecdote and is insistently keen on sharing it. How he loved a joke, whether telling it, sharing it or even being the residue of it.
There’s one giant ache in the heart, but also a tear in the eye, recalling all that went to make up a man to forever remember. A man who left this old world a considerably better place than when he found it…and when it found him. It was the making of them both.
It just won’t be the same ever again without Steve, but we are all so happy to have known him and so grateful that he came our way and shared mellow sunshine, which leaves the warmth of a glow.
So they say, no one is indispensable, yet Steve is totally irreplaceable. For us he will forever have his Place in our hearts.
Big Hug from Mauricio, Christiane, the Sulaiman Family and the entire Global Green and Gold Family.
